Boise State Football Predictions

2015 Boise State Football Predictions: 1st Mountain West – Mountain Division (2014 record: 12-2) Head Coach:  Bryan Harsin Mountain West Champion Odds: -260 National Championship Odds: +25,500 Season Win Totals Over-Under Odds: Over 9.5 (-150), Under 9.5 (+110)   Offense Without knocking other teams in the Mountain West, it just seems the Broncos talents are always left untested is a weaker conference. In his first season as head coach, Bryan Harsin led the Broncos to their requisite strong season. There just might be something mystical about playing on that blue carpets. The only thing that can be said about the offensive unit in 2014 is that they played to expected levels by scoring and average of just over 39 PPG while compiling 494.3 YPG of total offense using a balanced attack. It would seem Harsin stepped in and said why fix something that isn’t broken. It’s a good bet that Harsin’s second season is going to be a bit more difficult after losing both All-American RB Jay Ajayi (1,823 yards and 28 TDs on the ground) and a solid QB in Grant Hedrick who had 3,696 yards passing and 23 TDs passes to go along with 592 yards rushing and 8 rushing TDs. Even though the team’s top two receivers (SR Shane Williams-Rhodes – 585 yards and 7 TDs, JR Thomas Sperbeck – 877 yards and 3 TDs) are back in the fold, they rest of the team is going to have to be crafted by Coach Harsin. The main advantage he had is almost every blue-chip player on the west coast wants to come play at Boise State....

BYU Football Predictions

2015 BYU Football Predictions: Independent (2014 record: 8-5) Head Coach:  Bronco Mendenhall National Championship Odds: +30,000 Season Win Totals Over-Under Odds: Over 8.5 (+175), Under 8.5 (-245)   Offense The 2014 season was a season of streaks with 2 different 4 game winning streaks divided by a 4 game losing streak. Early in the season, the Cougars offense has trouble consistently putting the ball into the end-zone. However, they really got things rolling over the last four games of the season when they averaged close to 50 PPG. On the season, they averaged just over 37 PPG with offensive production of 460 YPG. Its worth noting most of that came from a vaunted passing game that accounted for almost 280 YPG. BYU played a lot of players last season. They had 7 running backs with at least 40 carried, platooning QBs and 7 wide receivers with at least 240 yards receiving. From those groups of players, the only significant loss is QB Christian Stewart who threw for 2,61 yards and 25 TDs as the passing half of the QB platoon. With his graduation, it should put the starting job firmly in the hands of dual threat QB SR Taysom Hill who threw for 975 yards and 7 TDs in 2014 while also rushing for just under 500 yards and 8 TDS. He will be joined in the backfield by returning SR RB Jammal Williams who led the team in rushing with 518 yards and 4 TDs. Perhaps the most exciting player to return in 2015 is SR WR Mitch Mathews who led the team in receiving with 922 yards...

Notre Dame Football Predictions

2015 Notre Dame Football Predictions: Independent (2014 record: 8-5) Head Coach:  Brian Kelly National Championship Odds: +3200 Season Win Totals Over-Under Odds: Over 9 (-150), Under 9 (+110)     Offense As one of the most storied football teams in the world, the Fighting Irish certainly have had few interesting years that included a big run towards a national title and a bunch of off-field controversy. After a great start to the 2014 season, the Irish lost 4 of its last 5 regular season games, only to finish the season with a bowl game victory. It is interesting to note that as the offense got better, the defense fell apart. On the season, the offense averaged 32.8 PPG on total offense of 444.9 YPG. Amidst a tumultuous career at Notre Dame, 2014 starting QB Everett Golson (3,445 yards passing, 29 TDs) made the decision to play his final season at Florida State, leaving the 2015 offense looking for a new QB. The favorite to win the starting job is JR Malik Zaire who only threw 35 passes last year, but looks to have a little talent. It will be a big relief to both Coach Kelly and the rest of the offense that both the team’s leading rusher and leading receiver from last year’s team are returning for their junior years. In the backfield, Zaire will be joined by RB Tarean Folston who rushed for 899 yards and 6 TDs as a sophomore. Lining up at wide receiver will be Will Fuller who caught 76 passes for 1,094 yards and 15 TDs. With a nice variety of underclassmen coming...

Virginia Football Predictions

2015 Virginia Football Predictions: 7th ACC Coastal (2014 record: 5-7) Head Coach:  Mike London ACC Champion Odds: +10,000 National Championship Odds: +100,000 Season Win Totals Over-Under Odds: Over 4.5 (+145), Under 4.5 (-185)   Offense A very tough 2014 schedule proved to be too much for the Cavaliers to handle. They played no fewer than nine teams that played in the post season, failing to make the postseason themselves. At least some of the blame can be placed on an offense that played rather uninspired ball at times. For the season, they averaged only 25.8 PPG while only picking up just over 374 YPG of total offense. When a coach decides to platoon QBs and the team still struggles, one has to wonder about the value of making that decision. With the departure of the team’s primary starter Greyson Lambert (1,632 yards and 10 TDs), it will be interesting to see if Coach London hands over complete responsibility for the offense to the other QB in JR Matt Johns who finished the season as the primary starter. He finished the 2014 season with 1,109 yards passing and 8 TDs. Johns figure to have a difficult time getting his bearings as he faces the new season with an offense that will look new because of the graduation of 5 starters, including leading rusher Kevin Parks who had 745 yards and 4 TDs and leading receiver Canaan Severin who caught 42 passes for 578 yards and 5 TDs. Considering the 2014 offense lacked depth, it will be interesting to see who Coach London pegs to step in to try to rebuild...
Pittsburgh Football Predictions

Pittsburgh Football Predictions

2015 Pittsburgh Football Predictions: T-5th ACC Coastal (2014 record: 6-7) Head Coach:  Pat Narduzzi (1st year) ACC Champion Odds: +3000 National Championship Odds: +70,000 Season Win Totals Over-Under Odds: Over 6 (-125), Under 6 (-115)   Offense New Panthers’ head coach Narduzzi is faced with the task of returning this once proud football program to respectability. In recent years, the team has had difficulty finding the kind of talent that is necessary to compete in a major conference like the ACC. He will be starting with an offense that played like Jekyll and Hyde for most of the 2014 season. At the beginning and end of the regular season, the offense looked fine, rolling up big points. It was a stretch of five games in the middle of the season when the offense went on sabbatical and looked lost. Overall, they scored 31.8 PPG on 435.4 YPG of total offense. Maybe the reason Narduzzi took this position was the fact the offense is returning all three of it’s best offensive players. Any discussion about this offense has to start with All-American candidate JR RB James Conner who had a huge 2014 season with 1,765 yards and 26 TDs. It doesn’t hurt that the man handing him the ball will be JR QB Chad Voytik who did a fine job with the passing game in 2014. For his part, he threw for 2,233 yards and 16 TDs with only 7 interceptions. He will be helped by the return of his favorite target in JR WR Tyler Boyd who caught 78 passes for 1,261 yards and 8 TDs. It’s this three-headed...

Duke Football Predictions

2015 Duke Football Predictions: T-5th ACC Coastal (2014 record: 9-4) Head Coach:  David Cutcliffe ACC Champion Odds: +700 National Championship Odds: +50,000 Season Win Totals Over-Under Odds: Over 7 (-150), Under 7 (+110)   Offense It took Coach Cutcliffe 7 seasons, but he finally put a football product on the field of which he could be very proud. They didn’t do it with mirrors, luck or deception, they did it by playing good solid football on both sides of the ball. The 2014 offensive unit put up decent numbers with almost 400 YPG of total offense that led to them scoring just over 32 PPG with only 15 turnovers. Compared to other teams in the past, that was a very good offensive performance for the Duke Blue Devils. If they have any designs on repeating their fine 2014 performance in 2015, they are going to have to do it with a new group of players due to graduation. Gone from last year’s squad are starting QB Anthony Boone (2,700 yards passing, 19 TDs) and leading receiver Jamison Crowder (85 receptions, 1,044 yards, 6 TDs). That bad news is somewhat offset by the return of the team’s two best running backs in SR Shaquille Powell (622 yards rushing, 2 TDs) and SO Shaun Wilson (604 yards rushing and 5 TDs). At this point in time, it is not clear who will take the reins at quarterback. The logical choice would be RS JR Thomas Sirk. However, he only threw 14 passes last season and it remains to be seen if he is ready to takeover the job as starter. After...
