Marquette vs Louisville – College Basketball Odds

Marquette travels to Louisville on February 3rd, 2013.  The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 pm est on ESPN. The oddsmakers have made Louisville a 10.5 point favorite in this Big East showdown.

Marquette Preview

Marquette’s overall record is 15-4, Big East record is 6-1, ATS overall is 8-7, ATS home is 4-4, and ATS away is 2-2.

Marquette is tied for first place in the Big East conference with Syracuse. They are coached by Buzz Williams, who is one of the most underrated coaches in the country. The last two years he got them into the sweet sixteen, and he just might do it again this year.

Marquette suffered on real bad loss on the road to Green Bay, 49 to 47. Their other losses have been to Florida, Butler, and Cincinnati. Their best wins so far have been over Georgetown and Pittsburgh.

Their leading scorer is a kid named Vander Blue. He is a 6’-4” wing guard that averages 15 points and 3 boards a game. Their best big guy is Davante Gardner. He stands 6’-8”, weighs 290 pounds, and averages 13 points and 6 rebounds a game.

Junior Cadougan is their point guard and he is 6’-1” tall, and averages 9 points and 4 assist a game. Jamil Wilson is another post player that gets a lot of minutes. He is 6’-7”, 225 pounds and averages 9 points and 4 boards a game.

Marquette is really not big enough to match up with Louisville’s inside. But, their wings are tough, and they are getting better.  Marquette is playing pretty good basketball right now, but they really do not have enough talent to win this game, unless Louisville has another poor offensive performance.

Louisville Preview

Louisville’s overall record is 17-4, Big East record is 5-3, ATS overall is 10-11, ATS home is 4-7, and ATS away is 4-2.

Louisville won its last game at home over Pittsburgh, 64 to 61. Not very impressive, to say the least. Before that, they had dropped three straight, and they desperately needed to play good and win the game. They won the game, but they did not play up to their potential.

Something is going on with this Louisville team, and whatever it is, it is not good. This team was considered a national championship contender, and they certainly are not playing like it right now.

Kevin Ware and Wayne Blackshear who both missed Louisville’s last game against Pittsburgh, will play against Marquette. Sometimes teams start reading the papers and listening to ESPN telling them how good they are, and they begin to believe it.

Other times, there are internal problems, and outsiders do not have privy to what is really going on. Right now, this team is not playing very well at all, to put it politely.

But, they are coached by Rick Pitino, who is one of the best in the business and you can be sure that he is trying everything that he knows to get it turned around.

Louisville got to the final four last year where they got beat by Kentucky. They have three starters back from that team. Peyton Siva their point guard, Gorgui Dieng their center, and Chane Behanan their power forward. This team has all the talent it needs to win it all, but they have to start playing much better.

Louisville is playing really bad, and they must get back to their normal selves. This is the game they need to give them some confidence heading into the last month before March Madness.
