Saturday, January 26, 2013

The oddsmakers have made North Carolina State a 5-point favorite with the total being set at 156.  The game is scheduled to be played Saturday January 26th at 7:00 pm est.

This is always a huge game for both teams. Not only are they ACC rivals, the schools are only located a few minute’s drive from each other. North Carolina has dominated this series for quite a while now, and this was believed to be the year NC State got its revenge. But, if they do not become more consistent and start showing up to play every game, that just might not happen.

North Carolina Preview

North Carolina’s overall record is 13-5, ACC record is 3-2, ATS overall is 9-6, ATS home is 6-2, and ATS away is 2-3.

North Carolina and Kentucky are the two best college basketball coaching jobs in the country. They are usually able to bring in the best high school talent in the nation every year.

Last year North Carolina lost four players to the NBA, but did not replace them with their usual super star class of recruits. In fact, they only had the 10th best recruiting class in America for 2012. For some schools, this would be considered fantastic, but for North Carolina, it is way below average.

Their best player is James Michael McAdoo, who is a 6’-9”, 230 pound power forward that is averaging 15 points and 8 boards a game. Reggie Bullock is a 6’-7” wing forward that is averaging 14 points and 6 rebounds a game.

They are coached by Roy Williams, who is considered one of the best coaches in the country. North Carolina is playing pretty good right now, let’s see if they can keep it up, and continue to improve.

N CAROLINA is 54-35 ATS after covering 5 or 6 of their last 7 against the spread since 1997.

North Carolina State Preview

North Carolina State’s overall record is 15-4, ACC record is 4-2, ATS overall is 9-8, ATS home is 6-3, and ATS away is 1-3.

NC State is coming off a bad loss to Wake Forest, who they were supposed to easily beat. North Carolina on the other hand, started the season very poorly with losses to Butler, Texas, Virginia, and Miami is starting to turn it around, and have put together three straight ACC conference wins.

NC State is coach by Mark Gottfried, who is under a tremendous amount of pressure right now, and it is not because his team is not living up to expectations.

After the loss to Wake Forest, a former player named Thomas De Thaey tweeted the following;
“That’s what happens when you’re a great recruiter, but a terrible coach”.

Being that he left the program because he was not getting the playing time he thought he deserved, this tweet was not considered very offensive.

But, then T.J. Warren, one of NC State’s star recruits last year, re-tweets the same thing, and that is really, but really bad. After that tweet, it caused some people to start thinking that this team is filled with dissension, and that is the reason they are not playing as well as they should.

Mark Gottfried was surprisingly hired out of the TV booth after a few high profile candidates turned down the NC State job last year. He previously coached at Alabama, where he was considered one of the best recruiters in America, and one of the worst on the floor coaches in the college ranks.

Last year, NC State got to the sweet sixteen, which was a huge accomplishment, since they were not even expected to get into the NCAA tournament at the start of the season. Because of that, many people thought coach Gottfried had improved his on the floor coaching.

But, the tweet by T.J. Warren has opened up quite a few old wounds, and has many people scratching their heads wondering exactly what is going on with this team.

NC State is lead by C.J. Leslie, who is a 6’-9” incredibly athletic 4 man that averages 15 points and 7 rebounds a game. Their next best player is Lorenzo Brown, who is a 6’-4” point guard that averages 13 points and 7 assist a game. They also have a ton of talent after every other position, and an excellent bench.

This is a very big game for both of these teams, and each one of them desperately needs to get a win. NC State has more talent, and on paper they should win the game. But, games are played on the court, so it is difficult to predict which one of these teams is going to come out of this one with a victory.

NC STATE is 0-6 ATS in home games versus good rebounding teams – outrebounding opponents by 4+ per game after 15+games over the last 3 seasons.
